Bleeding gum is very common but doesn’t mean that you should ignore them. If you leave it for too long without any treatments, you can potentially lose your teeth.
Bleeding gum occurs when plaque builds up along the gum line where the gum attaches to the tooth. If not removed, the bacteria that make up the plaque provoke an inflammatory reaction in the gum tissue.
Because bleeding gum doesn’t often cause any pains in a short term, many people think that they can just leave it. However, without any proper treatments from dentists, your gums will detach from your teeth and it will normally takes at least 6 months to make your gums healthy and attach back to your teeth again.
The easiest way to check if your gums are healthy is by using dental floss gently clean between your teeth. If there is blood come out when you floss, it is an obvious sign of unhealthy gums or gum disease.
If you haven’t had your regular check-up and scaling for more than 6 months, we recommend you to first come in for your full mouth examination and cleaning as soon as possible. After that daily flossing will help you maintain your overall dental health.
We will usually start with a thorough examination which includes gum screening, gum pocket assessment and X-rays to check underneath your gum.
Types of treatment will depend on the severity of the gum disease, it could be one of the options below;
- Root therapy for swollen gum or certain areas of gum disease
- Partial or full-mouth gum treatment for general gum disease
- Refer to a periodontist (Gum Specialist) for very severe gum disease
You will be advised for the next step that needs to be done to improve the condition of your gum and prevent the same issue from happening again in the future.
It will normally take approximately 20-45 minutes.
At Dental @ Central, we aim to deliver the highest possible benefits from the gum treatments we provide to you. We spend time to understand your issues and recommend suitable solutions for you which will enable you to maintain your good oral hygiene at home.
