I often tell my patients that the cost of coming to see dentist regularly or every 6 months is significantly lesser than to see a dentist only when you have toothache.
Here is why, When you come in to see a dentist every 6 months, the dentist would be able to detect the early sign of caries (decay or cavities) and periodontal disease (gum disease) which are the two most commonly diagnosed conditions in dentistry. The dentist would be able to prevent them from spreading around further which may cause a toothache in the future. The treatments involve in preventative dentistry may only be dental scaling and cleaning or fillings which cost a lot lesser compared to complex treatments such as, root canal treatments, crowns or implants.
You may argue that you don’t feel pain, why do you have to see dentist? When you have a toothache, most the time, it’s because of the bacteria has already eaten into your nervous system. Simple treatments such as fillings may not be able to help you out of pain. You may have to go through lengthy and complex treatments such as root canal treatments, crowns or implants if you would like to save the tooth.
You may also curious why have to be 6 months? It takes at least 6 months for clinical or radiographic (Xray) changes to occur on the teeth that are necessary for the accurate diagnosis of decay. Delaying your check up any longer might mean that the disease could be spreading through the teeth and gums. It’s not worth the risk.
So if you’d prefer to avoid toothache, complex dental treatments as well as saving your time and money, book in for a regular dental check-up with us today.
